I Am Not a Witch

I Am Not A Witch tells the story of 8-year-old Shula, who, following a banal incident in her village, is accused and found guilty of witchcraft and exiled to a camp for witches in the middle of a desert. It was written and directed by Rungano Nyoni, a Zambia-born British filmmaker based in Wales.

It won a BAFTA 2018 award for outstanding debut by a British writer and was submitted by BAFTA in the race for an Oscar for the best foreign-language film.

Mark Kermode from the Observer gave the film four out of five stars, praising Nyoni’s work, David Gallego’s cinematography and Mulubwa’s performance and wrote: “Rungano Nyoni’s debut feature, the story of a girl in Zambia accused of witchcraft, is comic, tragic – and captivatingly beautiful”

We also have a local Producer joining us on Thursday for a Q&A on our short, Ashes.
